Q: Who do the Western Balkans sanctions affect?
A: These sanctions block the property of anyone who threatens the peace or diminishes the security in the Western Balkans region, which includes the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, southern Serbia, the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.

Q: How does the U.S. determine that someone has undermined the security of the region?
A: The Secretaries of Treasury and State collectively determine that the sanctions apply to anyone who: Has committed, or poses a significant risk of committing acts of violence that threaten the peace or diminish the stability of any area or state in the Western Balkans region, undermining the authority or efforts of international organizations present in the region, or endangering the safety of person participating in the activities of those international organizations or entities; Has actively obstructed or poses a risk of obstructing the implementation of the Dayton Accords in Bosnia or the United Nations Security Agreement regarding Kosovo; or Materially assist in, sponsors or provides support for acts of violence or obstructionism in the region.
